MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, July 22, 2004 Transport Corporation of America, Inc. (NASDAQ:
TCAM), today announced the appointment of Thomas R. McBurney to its Board of Directors.
Mr. McBurney has held his present position as President of McBurney Management Advisors, a management
consulting firm, since 1990. From 1968 to 1989, Mr. McBurney held various positions with The Pillsbury
Company, and ultimately held the position of Executive Vice President and Chairman, US and International
Foods. Mr. McBurney is also a director of Valspar, Inc., Wenger Corporation, Meritex Enterprises, Inc.,
Greenspring Companies, and several fund boards of American Express Company.
