Tyson Donates $65,000 to Wetlands Restoration Project

Donation Earmarked for Bottomland Hardwood Reforestation Project within the Lower Obion River Watershed in western Tennessee Tyson Foods, Inc. has donated $65,000 in support of the Lower Obion River Project in western Tennessee. The gift will be used to offset costs associated with re-establishing bottomland hardwoods on 312 acres of converted natural wetland habitat.

Opportunities to restore impaired wetland systems abound when one of the nations most trusted food producers teams up with the worlds leading wetlands conservation organization, says Ducks Unlimited (DU) Director of Conservation Programs for Tennessee, Chris Cole. We are very appreciative of Tyson Foods generous gift and congratulate the entire organization on its commitment to protection and promotion of biodiversity.

The Lower Obion River basin is an important area for various bird species migrating in the Mississippi Flyway.

Ducks Unlimited, along with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, and the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation, have partnered to secure funding through a North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant to protect and restore wetland habitats in this heavily used portion of western Tennessee. Upon full implementation of the grant, over 5,800 acres of wetlands will be enhanced and available for use by wetland dependent wildlife, and by consumptive and non-consumptive resource user groups.

Tyson Foods is proud to support Ducks Unlimiteds wetlands conservation and restoration work in the Lower Obion River Basin, says Kevin Willis, environmental manager for Tysons Obion County poultry complex. Tyson Foods

Core Values state that we serve as stewards of the animals, land, and environment entrusted to us. This project provides us with an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to those core values. We look forward to working with DU on this project and on future efforts that benefit our environment, wildlife, and the people in our community.

With more than a million a supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the worlds largest wetland and waterfowl conservation group. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands natures most productive ecosystems and continues to lose more than 100,000 wetland acres every year.

Tyson has more than 4,200 Team Members at five locations in Tennessee. This includes a poultry production complex in Obion County that employs approximately 1,200 people.

Tyson Foods, Inc. [NYSE: TSN], founded in 1935 with headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas, is the worlds largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork and the second-largest food company in the Fortune 500. The company produces a wide variety of protein-based and prepared food products, which are marketed under the Powered by Tyson strategy.
