Regional drivers are home weekly and drive excellent miles. Regional Divisions: Southeast Regional, Ohio Regional, Mississippi Regional, Tennessee Regional, Virginia Regional, Northeast Regional.

Heartland Express Independent Contractor Benefits:
Tire purchase program. Tires are a major expense for any truck owner. Our tire purchase program allows owner operators to take advantage of our volume discounts.
Optional Terminal Fueling. Owners at Heartland are encouraged to save by purchasing discounted fuel at our facilities.
All licensing, base plates, and permits are paid for by Heartland. This is a one cent per mile value.
No up-front escrow money is required. No fuel-tax deductions. Weekly settlements, Direct-deposit is optional. Physical damage insurance is available. Safety bonus of one cent per mile is paid out annually.
GREEN MILE$ PROGRAM
Owner Operators running in the Northeast part of the country make $.95 per dispatched mile, loaded or empty, PLUS their added fuel stabilization program pay.

Heartland Express Owner Operator Requirements:
- Must be 23 years of age
- 1 year of verifiable over-the-road driving experience
- No Felony convictions
- Must be able to operate in Canada
- A stable employment history
- Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement in the state of the drivers residence
- Pass a DOT physical and meet Heartland's standards
- Completion of a 3 day orientation (in Iowa City, IA; Atlanta, GA; Kingsport, TN; Columbus, OH; Carlisle, PA; or Chester, VA)
- No DWI or DUI in the last 5 years
- No reckless or careless driving in the last 5 years
- No major accident in the last 3 years (no preventable accident over $6,000. No personal injury preventable still pending accident)
- No more than 4 moving violations in the last 3 years
- No more than 2 moving violations in the last 12 months
- No more than 1 serious violation in the last 5 years (Excessive speed of 15mph or over the posted speed limit. Following too close)
