Hiring Company Flatbed Drivers
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF TRUCKING IN 2004!!!
Melton Truck Lines is one of our nation’s leading flatbed trucking companies, and in 2004, they will be celebrating their 50th year in the trucking business. Started back in 1954 by Bert and Gladys Melton, the company has experienced phenomenal growth in its’ 50 years of existence. The Meltons sold the company in 1958 to the McRae family who ran the company until 1991, when they sold it it to the current owners, Bob and Liz Peterson. (The company has retained its’ original name as a way to honor the memory of the founder, Bert Melton).
Melton Truck Lines has its’ corporate offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is also the site of the company’s primary terminal. Melton Truck Lines also has other terminals in Laredo, Texas and El Paso, Texas. Melton Truck Lines has sales offices in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Illinois, New Jersey and Virginia. And, (as of press time), the company has a staff of 150 office employees and over 700 professional truck drivers.
Those aforementioned terminals in Laredo and El Paso are vital to the company, as Melton Truck Lines has been providing service to Mexico since 1980. (Melton has offices in Mexico City and Monterrey, by the way). When Melton Truck Lines began servicing Mexico in 1980, the company became the first flatbed trucking company to provide thru-trailer service to Mexico.
Because of the service which Melton provides to Mexico (as well as Canada), Melton Truck Lines received the prestigious President’s “E” Award in 2003. In a June 2003 ceremony in Washington, D.C., Melton President Bob Peterson accepted the award on behalf of the company. The “E” Award was first established in 1961, and is given annually to companies who excel at exporting American goods to other countries (It is our nation’s highest award for exporting). Commerce Secretary Don Evans presented the award to Mr. Peterson. During the presentation, Melton Truck Lines was recognized for facilitating export expansion through transportation. To give you an idea of how prestigious of an award this is, in 2001 there were only 10 recipients, and in 2002 there were only 16 recipients.
So, maybe you’re a truck driver who would like to drive for such a fine trucking company. Well if you would, Melton Truck Lines does currently have opportunities available for qualified company drivers and owner-operators. But, if hired by Melton Truck Lines, expect to meet the company’s high standards (a 98% on-time, pickup and delivery record).

(Professional drivers must have at least 6 months of solo on the road experience to be considered for a job by Melton).
For owner-operators with at least 6 months of OTR experience with their own tractor, Melton Truck Lines is interested in talking to you. Melton offers a competitive pay and benefits package which includes: pay of up to 83 cents per mile; $40 tarp pay; $30 stop pay; $1000 sign-on bonus which can be applied to a headache rack, if needed; competitive health insurance; 401K referrals; company pricing on fuel and maintenance; paid tolls; scale tickets; base plates and permits.
