Werner Enterprises
From humble beginnings, Werner Enterprises has grown into one of the five largest truck load carriers in the country today. What do we mean by humble beginnings? Well, the company was founded by Clarence Werner in 1956, and Mr. Werner started his business with just one truck! Today, Werner Enterprises has a fleet of 7900 tractors and 20,000 trailers. Also, Werner Enterprises has over 10,000 employees and independent contractors working to make it one of the top truckload motor carriers in America. Werner is also known for being on the “cutting edge” of trucking technology. In June 1998, Werner became the first truckload carrier authorized by the FHA, to implement a paperless logging system. This new system replaced traditional paper logbooks, which were used by truckers to record work hours and activities. In the paperless logging system used by Werner, many entries are made automatically for the driver, from info that is transmitted from the truck by satellite. There are three different trucking divisions within Werner Enterprises: Van (Dry Box); Flatbed; and Temperature-Controlled. Also, Werner has terminals located in thirteen different U.S. cities. Werner terminals are located in: Omaha; Phoenix; Denver; Dallas; Indianapolis; Atlanta; Portland; Lakeland, Florida; Laredo, Texas; Allentown, Pennsylvania; Springfield, Ohio; Shorewood, Illinois; and Fontana, California. So, chances are, there is a Werner terminal not too far from where you live. From just one truck back in 1956, to today where it is an industry leader……Werner Enterprises is truly a success story.
