Yellow Transportation, Inc. strives to meet its’ customers specific transportation needs, no matter what they are. And, they must be doing a great job of meeting those specific needs, because Yellow now has over 400,000 customers. One of those customers, Wal-Mart, recently gave Yellow its’ annual Carrier of the Year Award. (Note: Yellow is the only transportation services provide to win this award twice, in the five years that Wal-Mart has been giving out that prestigious honor).
Yellow traces it origins back to 1924, when an Oklahoma City businessman, A.J. Harrell, founded a bus and taxi company and named it Yellow Cab Transit Co. Later, he shortened the name to Yellow Transit Co. Today, Yellow Transportation is the largest subsidiary of Yellow Corporation, the parent company. Based in Overland Park, Kansas, Yellow Transportation has over 19,000 employees who work in 360 service centers in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
Even though the company is called Yellow Transportation, its’ trucks are orange. The reason for that? In 1929, the aforementioned founder, Mr. Harrell, was concerned about road safety. So, he commissioned the Dupont Company to determine which tractor color would be most visible from the greatest distance on our nation’s highways. That color? Swamp Holly Orange. And, to this day, the color of the Yellow Transportation trucks is still swamp holly orange. By providing quality service, Yellow Transportation has experienced phenomenal growth, and should continue to grow in the future. FORTUNE MAGAZINE, in its’ March 3rd issue, rated Yellow Transportation, as the MOST-ADMIRED company in the industry. Doesn’t that sound like the company you would like to drive for? Swamp holly orange might just be “your color”.
