Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Training Programs
CDL A: With Passenger Endorsement - 200 Hours (5 Weeks)
This course covers both Tractor Trailers and Buses. Students will learn theory in the classroom the first week, then be out in SSDT's yard where the students will learn the necessary skills to operate a Tractor Trailer and a Bus properly. Afterwards, under supervised instruction from their experienced road instructors students will learn the skills necessary to operate the commercial vehicles on the road.
CDL A: Tractor Trailer Training - 160 Hours (4 Weeks)
This course is SSDT's most sought-after course. They encourage each prospective student to take the CDL A course, because it gives the students more career options when they graduate. During this course students will be in the classroom the first week learning the theory behind operating a commercial vehicle in order to pass their written permit test. Then students will move out to the yard to learn maneuvers. Then under supervised instruction by one of SSDT's experienced trainers students will learn the skills necessary to drive a tractor trailer on the road. This is where the students gain the knowledge and most importantly, the confidence to operate a truck safely and efficiently.
CDL B: Straight Truck Training - 120 Hours (3 Weeks)
This course teaches the student how to operate straight trucks or box trucks. Students start the course in the classroom where they study the theory behind operating one of these vehicles and get themselves ready to pass the written permit test. After the classroom sessions students will move to the yard where they will learn skills on the truck that they will be testing on. Once confident with these skills students will go out on the road under supervised instruction with one of SSDT's experienced trainers and learn how to drive the commercial motor vehicle in real-life traffic scenarios.
CDL B: With Passenger Endorsement - 120 Hours (3 Weeks)
This course teaches students how to drive a bus. Upon completion they will earn a CDL B with a passenger endorsement. This means that students will be able to drive a vehicle with 16 or more passengers. During the classroom portion of the student's training they will study the theory behind operating a bus as they prepare themselves to take the written permit exam. Then students' training will be moved to SSDT's training yard where they will learn the basic skills of operating a bus. When students are ready, they will move to road training where they will learn -- with confidence -- how to operate the bus safely and be prepared to pass the road test.
Forklift Operator Training Ãƒ‚Ã¢€“ 8 Hours (1 Day)
Learn to operate a forklift (lift truck) safely. Smith & SolomonÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s forklift training zeroes in on the following areas: The theory of OSHA-compliant operation with the goal of lessening -- if not totally eradicating -- workplace accidents, deaths, and injuries; Hands-on operation of a sit-down counterbalanced truck, a stand-on narrow aisle picker, and a motorized hand truck; Engine and motor operation, controls, and instrumentation; Capacity and stability; Steering and maneuvering, aisle loading and unloading, stacking and tiering, tractor-trailer loading and unloading, instruments; Operation in closed and open environments; Training on student's/company's own premises and equipment.
