Christmas is fast approaching and the trucks are just behind rolling.
December 11, Saturday, this is the date KEKA Thunder 101 Country Radio presents the 2010 KEKA Truckers Christmas Parade. This is the 31st year of one of the magnificent shows on wheels to roll out through the streets of Eureka.
Thousands of people are expected to crowd the streets to witness trucks decorated with lights and Christmas ornament from bumper to bumper, side to side and high above their wheel base. The Northern California trucking industry, businesses, and citizens go all the way every year to prepare this spectacular event, the parade of decorated large trucks.
Locals are not the only people who are going to enjoy this wonderful parade since buses are due in from Medford, Ore., Sacramento and the Bay Area.
This event is actually a way to raise money for a selected nonprofit organization. The funds are taken form the entry fee, sponsors, cash winners who give their winnings to the selected donor and local businesses who contributes a portion of their proceeds.
The Boys and Girls Club House will benefit this yearÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s parade. It is located at the corner of Harris and J streets in Eureka. The TruckerÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s Parade Open House will be hosted by the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center at the Teen Center between 6 and 9 p.m. on December 11. The funds that will be used for the Safe & Sober New YearÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s Eve Party will be taken from the proceeds of the refreshments.
At 6p.m. sharp, the Truckers Christmas Parade is set to start rolling, starting from Redwood Acres Fairgrounds parking lot onto Harris Street. The planned route for the parade travels west on Harris Street to I Street, to 7th Street to Myrtle Avenue and back to Redwood Acres Fairgrounds.
After the parade, the spectators are invited to view the entries and attend the awards presentation in the parking lot. The best entries will be awarded with cash prizes. The cash awards are as follows: large entries, 1st place, $400, 2nd place, $200; small entries, 1st place, $300, 2nd place, $100.
