Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a consumer owned utility which provides electric service to more than 85,000 connections in parts of 16 Virginia counties.
 
It was formed in 1980 with the collaboration of two cooperatives, Virginia Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative in Culpeper. The cooperative's General Offices are in Spotsylvania County.

REC offers professional electrical work beyond the electricity measuring meter, that is, inside the customer's home. This includes service work, outages due to failure of customer-owned equipment, and installation and troubleshooting of electrical circuits. Some examples of electrical work beyond the meter are Electrical inspections, Lighting/Ceiling fan installation, Back-up generator transfer switch installation, Replace overhead service-drop cable and Replace existing house service panel.
 
REC offers generator transfer switches that make it safe, quick and convenient to connect portable generator to home electrical system. Because of the transfer switch installed at the electric meter, it eliminates the need for multiple extension cords or a separate electrical panel. The transfer switches gives full access to all circuits, to rotate circuits as per the needs change during the day. Generator transfer switches are available in three different load and capacity sizes, and prices include installation.
