With nearly 40 years of service, R & L Carriers has grown from a single truck agency to an enviable fleet of over 10,000 tractors and trailers. This family-owned and operated company is dedicated to providing superior service by anticipating their customers' needs and responding to their expectations. It is this dedication to service that has been the driving force behind the company's growth and continued success.
In 1965, Ralph L. "Larry" Roberts I, the teenager with sky-high aspirations - of owning his own business – and dreams of making those a reality, purchased a single truck to haul furniture. His next step was to acquire intrastate and interstate authority from Mayflower Moving and Storage. This move laid the foundation for the company now known as R&L Carriers Inc.
Its team of Quality Directors travels the terminal network providing hands-on training, their job being to monitor the proper use of equipment and ensure correct freight handling procedures are in place. Other factors of the program include the use of videos for education and feedback. Video production has been brought in-house so that immediate action can be taken when a problem is identified and a complete video training library is maintained at every terminal. Additionally, dock and driver Team meetings are held system-wide which make for healthy and timely interface needed for feedback and maintenance of superior service.
When handling of hazardous materials for transportation is required, R & L Carriers is equipped to serve this need as well. All its employees are trained in handling hazardous material in compliance with state and federal hazardous material regulations. R & L Transfer Inc. is committed to the safe operation of its truck line and the safety of others with whom they come in contact. This commitment is supported by the company providing right knowledge and by educating all associates while promoting communication system-wide. The company has a security force of nearly 100 officers dedicated to the protection of shipments and programs designed with the goal including TECH 2000 Program - combining security resources and customer service personnel to insure that a freight loss, should one occur, be swiftly addressed. Additionally, the D.A.R.T. Program - an education training program in security procedures - was implemented in 1996.
Serving a total of 47 states plus Canada and Puerto Rico, R & L Transfer Inc. continues to expand in direct response to customers' needs as a leading LTL motor freight carrier with owners who stand ready to meet future challenges.
