David L. Sitton and his two sons, Richard and Michael, celebrated the nation's freedom by turning a dream of starting their own trucking company into a reality and Sitton Motor Lines came into being in July 1979, in Joplin, Missouri. Sitton Motor Lines is a privately held corporation and offers services as an irregular route common and contract carrier, providing truckload transportation service throughout the United States. Combining nearly 50 years of experience and their lifeÂâ€Ã¢„¢s savings, the Sittons began serving 13 states with five owner operator tractors and 50 new trailers.

SML's all-conventional company fleet comprises Freightliner Columbia and Peterbilt 387 tractors. The average age of the companyÂâ€Ã¢„¢s fleet is two years. All units are equipped with computer-controlled Caterpillar C-12 and C-15 engines. In addition to this the tractors are equipped with the nine-speed transmission with top two, Air release 5th wheels and trailer tandems, Sirius Satellite Radio equipment, Air-ride cab with Air-ride seats, Aluminum wheels, Power mirrors, Heated mirrors, cruise control and large double bunk sleepers. SML's trailer fleet includes 1300 Lufkin and Great Dane 53' x 102" dry vans. All trailers have 110" door height and floor widths of 96½" or 97¾". All trailers have vertical logistic Etrack posts, Air-ride, automatic air inflation, and are well ventilated.

SML has the latest Geologic Solutions mobile communications technology to communicate with their fleet of line haul trucks. Each truck is equipped with a multi-mode unit that can send and receive messages using satellite and terrestrial networks. This provides the company with complete coverage and keeps the base in touch with their drivers at all times.
