Benjamin Moore & Co., a Berkshire Hathaway company, has produced quality paint since 1883, when the young Irish immigrant - Benjamin Moore- began his paint business venture with his brother, William, in a small building in Brooklyn, NY. The first product to be manufactured was called Calsom Finish, a calsomine coating for walls and ceilings and the company made a profit the very first year. William left the organization and Robert Moore, another of Benjamin's brothers, contributed $2,000 and joined the venture. Shortly afterward, the present New Jersey Corporation was organized, and the firm moved to Newark, NJ.

Benjamin Moore & Co.'s efforts to produce quality coatings while ensuring that products manufactured are used in an environmentally responsible manner are a constant. A unique feature of the Benjamin Moore Color Samples is that they allow customers to "try on" a color before committing to the time and expense of painting an entire room. This gives the most accurate sense of how the color will actually look in the room; as each 2 oz. sample covers about 2Ââ€Ã¢„¢ X 2' area with two coats of paint, the option of testing a number of different colors at the same time is available for the customer.
