Navajo Tribal Utility

The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) is an Enterprise of the Navajo Nation providing Electric, Natural Gas, Water, Wastewater Treatment and Solar to the people of the Navajo Nation. The company purchases electrical power from off the Navajo reservation and transmits it to homes throughout the Nation, spread across northeastern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, and southeastern Utah.

Since 1959, NTUA has supplied electricity, water, natural gas, wastewater treatment, and photovoltaic (solar power) services to residents of the Navajo Nation and Indian Lands since 1959 and currently provides electrical service to about 30,000 households.

Enhanced customer service by incorporating respect, equality, and accountability into performance system has been the goal of NTUA and this is achieved by providing excellent service and quality products to employees and customers that exceed their expectations. In this mission, the company is supported by the operations of different utilities organized into five Districts and three Sub-offices. Each District and Sub-office serves as the central point for customer service and utility operation; equipped with manpower, materials, and equipment, as well as business systems to support operations within their respective service areas. The district offices are located Shiprock, NM, Kayenta, Ariz., Dilcon, Ariz., Chinle, Ariz., and Fort Defiance, Ariz. NTUA suboffices are located in Crownpoint, NM, Red Mesa, Ariz., Tuba City,Ariz., and Nageezi, NM.

The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority maintains water systems throughout the Navajo Nation wherein this precious commodity is pumped and distributed to the residents of the Navajo Nation. The company also has certain community programs like the Budget Payment Plan which is designed to help residential customers budget in advance for their utility bills, eliminating the seasonal highs and lows of monthly bills by allowing them to pay the same budget payment amount each month, despite fluctuations in their monthly usage. Another great feature is the Senior Citizen Discount wherein NTUA offers a 7 to 10 percent discount to elderly customers (60 years and above with an annual household income of $21,000 or less.) A Life support discount is also offered to customers who require utility services to be maintained due is a serious health condition which is the same percentage as above as long as the customer is certified by his or her attending licensed physician as requiring continuous utility service due to a serious health condition which could be life-threatening if utility service is disconnected.
