Lakin General Corp

Lakin General is a Chicago based company engaged in tire recycling business. The company was established in 1900. Lakin serves as a collector of tires and a producer of parts and products using the take off tire as raw material. Their program is frequently cited by environmental organizations as a positive example for resolving scrap tire disposal. Lakin has been cited by industry and government organizations as a leader in its field.
TICOR parts and assemblies are being used in hundreds of applications where engineers require a versatile, low cost, durable rubber material that can transmit torque, absorb vibration, seal gaps against granular leakage, convey and spread materials, withstand cyclical flexing and allow for thermal expansion and contraction. TICOR parts are produced by a unique mechanical method of recycling tires. Each tire is classified by size, number of plies and type of reinforcing material. Both beads are removed and the two sidewalls and center tread section are separated. The three segments are then machined to the proper thickness with a close tolerance range. After inspection, the TICOR parts are die cut to their specific size and shape.
Lakin produces crumb rubber feedstock generally classified as particulate rubber under one inch in diameter to exacting specifications through the companyÂâ€Ã¢„¢s understanding of tire material properties and its extensive shredding systems. Lakin has produced crumb rubber for a variety of engineering applications, including feedstock for rubber products like mats for domestic, commercial, recreational, industrial and agricultural use, rubber cart and lawnmower wheels, lumber and other construction projects, soaker hoses and landscaping products. The companyÂâ€Ã¢„¢s feedstock is also used in micro milling to produce fine mesh ground rubber for use in asphalt rubber, roofing products, coatings and sealants, as well as for numerous automotive products such as new tires.

For over 100 years, the Lakin family has been committed to tire recycling, an ethic that has created a company recognized throughout the industry for its quality, integrity and leadership.  Today, the company is one of the largest and most efficient tire recycling organizations in the United States and produces parts and products for global distribution.
