West Tree Service was founded in 1945 by A.D. West and M.E. Erickson after several years of experience with the Davey Tree Expert Company. The duo began working for utility companies such as Southwestern Bell Telephone and AT&T with one flat bed truck and three employees. In 1950, West Tree Service began working on its first contract with Arkansas Power and Light (now Entergy) and has maintained a working relationship with them for over 55 years. In the late 1960's, Jack West, Bill Jackson and Ross Reckling joined West Tree Service  and Jack's son, Matthew West, is a third generation West Tree Service employee.

The early1960Ââ€Ã¢„¢s saw a growth for the company when it purchased its first two-bucket trucks; the current number being of 120-bucket trucks, 10 jarraffs, 150-brush chippers, 65-dump trucks and 50-automobiles and pickup trucks used by over100 crews. The company is serving primary utility companies in Arkansas and the surrounding areas and it trims approximately 6,000 miles of utility right-of-way annually.

During natural disasters (tornadoes, wind storms, ice storms), WTS(West Tree Service) has developed a crisis response plan which allows their contracted utility customers to respond to the needs of their customers in a fixed time format. This plan was recently implemented during the severely damaging hurricanes, which occurred throughout Florida and the southeast during September 2004.Currently, the company has line clearance contracts with several Electric Utility Companies, Electric Co-Operatives, and Municipalities in Arkansas and surrounding states (Louisiana, Mississippi, and Oklahoma), providing safe and reliable vegetation management.

2005 marked the 60th year in business for WTS: the reason for success being loyal and committed workforce who maintain the highest quality workmanship and strive to be resourceful for customers. These elements allow West Tree Service to offer electrical line clearing services to their customers which includes Aerial Bucket Trimming, Manual Tree Trimming, Mechanical Tree Trimming, Tree Removal and Emergency Storm Restoration.

In July of 2003, the business was sold to Ford Overton of Little Rock, Arkansas. Ford had over 15 years of experience in the service industry prior to his purchase of WTS. He recognized the value in the existing management team, and continues to rely on their knowledge and expertise within the organization: every good astute business operator realizes the worth of good work when it stems from its worker – the seed counts.
