Elam Construction Inc. was founded in 1956 by Robert and Mildred Elam. Their company grew with dedication and commitment. Today, their son and grandsons carry on the legacy of the family business. Elam boasts 7 asphalt plants, 4 crushing spreads, 18 gravel pits and over 200 employees. Elam is under the leadership of Harold Elam as President with offices in Grand Junction, Aspen, Edwards, Steamboat Springs, Fraser, Montrose, Farmington, Durango and Craig.
The company believes in investing in the whole employee by improving his or her knowledge and skills. Cross training is encouraged and Elam is very supportive of employee initiative in education. Elam supports learning through classes, seminars, conventions and apprentice training.
Asphalt is a combination of stone, sand, or gravel, which is held together and strengthened by asphalt cement, which is a product of crude oil. The asphalt cement is heated, then combined and mixed with the sand, stone or gravel. The asphalt is placed on the site, and then quickly compacted with a heavy roller.
Elam does their best to purchase products made from recycled materials. The company recycles their own used oil, junk iron, aluminum, tires and more. The oil that is recycled goes into burner oil; tires are recapped and reused or made into floor mats; Elam's recycling projects also have recreational benefits. Many lakes and trails along rivers are reclaimed gravel pits that have become popular recreational areas. 100 percent of an asphalt pavement can be recycled. It can be picked up, and remixed with some fresh materials, then reused in paving. The quality of recycled asphalt pavement is the same or better than new pavement. Elam recycles much of the asphalt and concrete that is removed from a project. They crush it and use it in patching and as refill material for a variety of projects. Even special cardboard tubes that package asphalt fabric are recycled and used to shoot off fireworks.

ElamÂâ€Ã¢„¢s growth is the result of their commitment to the clients and their customers. Every customer is important to Elam, and meeting their needs is the primary focus of their business.
