Southside Electric was started in 1937. It is a not for profit, member-owned electric distribution cooperative. SEC is the largest rural electric cooperative in Virginia and provides electric service to more than 50897 active meters in portions of 18 counties, 5 towns and one city over some 7,847 miles of line in South Central Virginia. 
 
Company dedicated to service and committed to the future are trademarks of Southside Electric Cooperative. The Southside Virginia, rural electric distribution cooperative developed because rural people see the need for electric power in their homes and on their farms. The cooperative started because investor-owned power companies did not believe that rural electrification was profitable. 
 
Company headquartered situated in Crewe, Virginia, Southside Electric Cooperative has four district offices is active in economic development and maintains a good community relations program. Southside Electric CooperativeÂâ€Ã¢„¢s service territory spans approximately 180 miles from the City of Petersburg to Bedford County (east to west) and 90 miles from Powhatan County to approximately 16 miles from the North Carolina line (north to south). SEC has a 10-person board of directors to represent each of the 10 districts that make up the cooperativeÂâ€Ã¢„¢s service territory.
 
Southside Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Crewe, Virginia, is a member-owned rural electric utility which provides electric services to more than 50,897 member accounts in portions of Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Pittsylvania, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Prince George and Sussex counties, the towns of Hurt, Crewe, Blackstone, Kenbridge and South Hill and the City of Petersburg.
 
Company providing electric service and also provides other wiring/electrical consulting services to members. Energy audits, heat loss/heat gain estimates, safety and AWARE education programs, EZPAY bill payment and third party notification bill payment services, budget billing and security lighting.
 
SEC also participates in Energy Share, fuel assistance and other service programs that benefit Cooperative members.
