Lyondell Technology Center is located at west of Philadelphia in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, is home to research and development (R&D) programs for the companyÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s intermediates and performance chemicals businesses. The company has got 180 employees at this facility, consisting of chemists, engineers, commercial development professionals, technicians, operators, support staff, and contractors, maintain LyondellÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s role as the industryÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s lowest cost producer of propylene oxide (PO) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO). Their employees continuously improve their commercial technologies, develop new products and find new markets for existing products. The process development group collaborates with the companyÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s engineering, manufacturing and business organizations to improve the propylene oxide/styrene monomer (POSM), propylene oxide and tert-butyl alcohol (PO/TBA), and BDO manufacturing technologies. In addition, Process Development works closely with the Performance Chemicals Group to develop cost-effective technologies for new products.
The Performance Chemicals Group develops, tests and markets PO-based products, including resins, solvents, glycols, intermediate chemicals, allyl alcohol, and BDO derivatives. By working closely with the customers to understand the needs of each specific market, the companyÃƒ‚Ã¢€Ã¢„Ãƒ‚¢s team formulates unique solutions for the coatings, deicers, inks, coolants, cleaning, health and beauty care, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, cement, dry cleaning and optical resin markets.
