In 1942 in the small community of Sculpture, Louisiana, Alma Como used his hands and carpentry tools to fussily build a wooden form in which he would eventually pour concrete. The finished product would be a rough, but functional set of concrete steps to replace the decaying wooden steps in which he had fallen through several days before.  

Century Group Inc in 1980Ââ€Ã¢„¢s was the first company to successfully develop and market a full depth concrete railroad grade crossing on a nationwide basis. Century continued its product development during the early 1990's by developing a state-of-the-art recast concrete railroad spill collection system manufactured out of stainless steel and high-density polyethylene.  

Century has taken advantage of the boom in commercial and residential construction by developing a line of architectural recast concrete products. This impressive list of products includes recast concrete signs, security barriers, bollards, wall panels, communication and utility buildings and many other products for the commercial construction industry. It has also become a leading manufacturer of concrete fireplace mantels, countertops, columns, lintels and many other products to enhance home construction.

Century was not the first company to design and develop step handling bars, buggies, forklift attachments and chain slings to handle steps in a safer and more efficient manner, the quality has continued to be the leader in the concrete step industry because of its commitment to quality.
