Rent-A-Center Inc was started in 1986; the company has grown from 16 stores to more than 2,880 in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada through acquisitions and new store openings. Their largest acquisition was in 1998 when they bought 1,409 stores from Thorn Americas.  

In 1995, their company, then known as renterÂâ€Ã¢„¢s choice, went public on the Nasdaq national market under the symbol RCII. Their Plano, Texas-based company is the nation's largest in the rent-to-own industry and employs more than 17,000 people. The company operates 21 stores in Wisconsin under the name Get It Now, which offers merchandise on an installment sales basis. Their six stores in Alberta, Canada are called Rent-A-Center.  

ColorTyme receives royalties of the franchisees' monthly gross revenue. Rent-A-Center was listed as No. 683 on the Fortune 1000 list of the largest United States corporations based on a composite ranking of 2004 revenues, profits, assets market value and other measures. ColorTyme, Inc., a subsidiary of Rent-A-Center, is a nationwide franchisor of rent-to-own stores.  

Their stores offer name-brand furniture, appliances, electronics and computers through flexible rental purchase agreements that generally let the customer obtain ownership of the merchandise at the conclusion of an agreed upon rental period. Many of their customers choose to rent merchandise for the temporary.

The company gives same-day delivery, 90 days same as cash and an early purchase option. Their 23 service centers across the country will provide service at no additional cost to the customer. The company is also gives their customers a product substitute to use while their product is in service.
