Gopher News was started in 1902 with St. Marie's Confectionaries and Groceries in St. Paul, MN. Newspapers, illustrated journals and theater programs were carried. Just before World War I, the first stack of newspapers and magazines were taken from the store to a street corner in St. Paul to be sold from a stand. The first magazine distribution route in Minnesota. The grocery store was finally closed so that full attention could be devoted to the growing distribution business. In the following years more street corners, cigar stands, and concessionaires were added to the magazine and newspaper deliveries.  

The company operates from a modern distribution center in Golden Valley, MN, and is the premiere distributor of magazines and books in the Upper Midwest with additional sites in Brainerd, MN, Duluth/Superior, Des Moines, Mankato, Lacrosse, Rochester, IA, Omaha, and Grand Island, NE. the company continues to be a family owned business celebrating the virtues of quality, service, and pleasure in a job well done.
