The legacy of Coborn's began in 1921 when Chester Coborn opened a single produce market on Broadway Avenue in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Eventually, dry goods and other merchandise were added to the store's offerings, as Chester tried to meet the needs of customers. Coborns Inc operates over 20 conventional Coborn's grocery stores and superstores in the upper Midwest. Recognizing the potential for what was termed a warehouse or discount grocery store. Coborn's opened its first Cash Wise Foods store in Willmar, Minnesota in 1979. While the cash wise stores traditionally do not provide bagging services and are priced well below conventional grocery stores, making them very attractive to a large number of consumers. Coborn's currently operates nine cash wise foods stores throughout the upper Midwest.
 
Coborns Inc stores are located in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and pride themselves on cleanliness, friendly service and competitive gas prices. A 24 hour pay at the pump is now available at most locations.
 
Coborns Inc manufacture two types of foods; first one bakery, CobornÂâ€Ã¢„¢s Inc central bakery, built in 1991, supplies a variety of products including breads, buns, muffins, cakes, bagels, cookies, donuts, and fried rolls to the CobornÂâ€Ã¢„¢s, Cash Wise, and Little DukeÂâ€Ã¢„¢s stores located throughout the upper Midwest. Operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, the 25,000 square foot facility has a staff of approximately 110 full and part-time employees.  The second one is DBC foods commissary. CobornÂâ€Ã¢„¢s Inc meat and deli manufacturing facility, known as DBC Foods, was built in 1991. The USDA inspected facility supplies meat and deli items to company-owned stores throughout the upper Midwest. DBC Foods also has distribution to a number of outside accounts. DBC Foods, which employs 80 full and part-time employees, manufactures approximately 700 items, including deli salads and entrees and a wide selection of smoked meat products.
