Essex Group was established in 1930 by businessman Addison Holton. They formed the Essex Wire Corporation in Detroit, Leasing 125,000 square feet Ford Motor Company plant.

Their headquarters are at Atlanta, Georgia. Superior Essex Inc. employs almost 3000 people and manages a business portfolio that generates $1 billion in revenues annually. The company is one of the global manufacturers of magnet wire.
