A gentle man named Roger Malone was the one who started started the trucking company called Frozen Food Express Industries. But it was Cy Weller, a former attorney from San Antonio who was drafted into the Army, who first led this trucking company to success.

Cy Weller decided to go into trucking business when he found out that he no longer had office space for his legal practice. He used what he learned from the army and bought military equipments and salvage trucks from the government and he sold them to trucking companies. The trucking industry had a need for trucks with deep freezing capacity to transport perishable items over long distances during those days, but no one was mass producing them. Cy solved this problem by purchasing Army refrigerators that were used for international shipment of food and he had these refrigerators installed into trailers. These were among America's first deep refrigeration trailers.

To run a trucking company a permit is required. Roger Malone came into picture when he decided to exit the trucking business. By November1948, Cy Weller had control of the permit and Frozen Food Express Industries. It became a publicly traded company in 1971 and the stock has repeatedly outperformed it's competitors.
