J.R. Simplot was founded more than 70 years ago by J.R. Jack Simplot in his community Delco, Idaho. When only 14 years old he left to go into business on his own. By the early years of the World War II, Simplot was established like one of the largest shipper of fresh tomatoes in the country and was also selling millions of pound of dehydrated onions and potatoes to the military.

During the war it was very difficult to buy fertilizer, so he built a manufacturing plant in Pocatello, Idaho, and produced his own. His determination and ingenuity was prized when Simplot created and marketed the first commercially viable frozen french fries in the world.

Today, Simplot is one of the largest privately held firms in the country with annual sales toping $3 billion. At the moment the company has grown into a global food and agribusiness conglomerate with products that are sold in every state and many foreign countries.
